Arimidex

Arimidex is a prescription oral tablet containing the active ingredient anastrozole, classified as an aromatase inhibitor. It is primarily used to treat hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

Key Uses

• Adjuvant treatment: Reduces the risk of cancer recurrence after surgery in early hormone receptor-positive breast cancer.

• First-line therapy: Treats locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer that is hormone receptor-positive or hormone receptor-unknown.

• After tamoxifen: Used when breast cancer has progressed following tamoxifen therapy.

How It Works

Arimidex lowers estrogen levels in the body by blocking the aromatase enzyme, which is essential for estrogen production. Lower estrogen levels help slow or stop the growth of certain types of breast cancer cells that rely on estrogen to grow.
